Childhood friends bring spirit of Christmas to life with XMAS Trailer of kindness

It’s been six years that a tight-knit friend group out of North Tonawanda, NY decided to commit their December weekends to giving back in a creative way.
Jacob Brosius explains.
“We were sitting at our favorite bar one-night brainstorming about the perfect way to make people smile, and also give back to those in need during the holidays. We already owned a trailer, so we thought, ‘Why not deck it out, dress in costume, carol as best as we could, play some music and also collect items to help.’”

The XMAS Trailer was born – a 66 foot long trailer float, dedicated to spreading Christmas cheer. And what started as a simple idea quickly escalated after their give back initiative gained steam.
“We chose to collect items for the North Tonawanda Food Pantry and by the second year we grew to 1,500 canned goods and hygiene products. By the 5th year {last year}, it was up to 19,500!”

The team of friendly characters – including the Grinch and his dog, Max, Frosty, the Abominable Snowman, Buddy the Elf, Rudolph, Santa and Mrs. Claus, and new addition this year and a fan favorite, Elsa and Anna – captivate neighborhoods across NT. Jacob says that it’s unbelievable to witness how many families wait outside in anticipation of the trailer coming through their neighborhood – lights and music blaring.
“We are all blown away with the reactions we get. Whether it’s a 3-year-old, who wants to high-five Frosty or a 90-year-old, who waves to us with a big smile, the community of North Tonawanda is made up of the most amazing, generous people.”
Jacob and his friends often wonder – “How is all of this support even possible?”
Community members say they are so impressed with the level of kindness from those who keep this tradition strong, year after year. Just scrolling through their Facebook page, the fan appreciation is everywhere.
Jacob adds that the man power, volunteer hours and dedication are all worth it when it comes to the delivery of all of the items. “The pantry told us last year that we broke the record for the largest donation in its history. That made us feel so proud and we hope everyone who is on the receiving end feels loved this Christmas, and throughout the year.”

The XMAS Trailer group is trying to get to 25,000 items of canned goods or hygiene products this year. Can you help them in their goal? Visit their Facebook page to catch up on where they plan to be each night.
‘Tis the season for giving back – incredible work to the XMAS Trailer angels for making the holidays brighter each year!
