Rachel Goldman is changing the world each and every day. She is part of our WOMEN CRUSH THE WORLD Hope Rises series.
We “met” Rachel virtually, so while we never had the pleasure of meeting her in person, we could feel her passion for her cause. Learn more about what she is doing for pediatric patients faced with the diagnosis of cancer.
Tell us about yourself, Rachel.I created Runway Heroes back in 2014 in an effort to provide a confidence-boosting experience for children with cancer. We are a nonprofit organization that features children with cancer in fashion events. I have always been a fierce advocate for children with cancer. I served as an executive board member of The Ronan Thompson Foundation since 2012 and have been a Wish Granter for Make-A-Wish since 2009. In addition, I am completing my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and currently specialize in child psychology, parenting and children with medical illness.
What makes your heart tick – why do you love helping others?Making children laugh and smile despite any bigger battles they are fighting makes my heart tick. I just love letting children maintain their innocence the very best I can.
What exciting events do you have coming up for Runway Heroes? We have two exciting events – the first taking place at Kleinfeld Bridal in Manhattan on Monday, December 10th. This is a ticketed event that will be featured on an episode of Say Yes to the Dress on TLC. It is an all girls runway show where children with cancer can walk the runway showcasing beautiful flower girl dresses from the Kleinfeld Bridal Party Collection. Our second event is a runway show at Bloomingdales 59th Street on Saturday, December 15th. This show is open to the public to come cheer on boys and girls who are fighting cancer strut the runway showcasing clothing from top fashion brands including Polo Ralph Lauren, Toms, 7 For All Mankind, Splendid, Kate Spade, Terez and many others.
Where are you originally from and where do you see yourself in the future?I am from New York and have lived in the city for nearly a decade. I see myself continuing to grow Runway Heroes so many more children with cancer are able to feel like royalty. I also see myself continuing to develop my professional career as a psychologist.
