It was back in November of 2017 that LeGus Holloway of Texas was caught on video viciously beating a dog, enough to break its leg and require extensive care.
That video went viral with animal advocates across the globe calling for strict punishment for the man who committed the horrific abuse.
The sweet dog in the video? Six-month-old puppy, Lady.
The Texarkana Police Department, who have handled the case from the start, report that the original video showing the abuse garnered more than 150,000 views. Holloway was pictured beating, strangling and slamming the puppy to the ground by her leash.
The man videoing the abuse could be heard off screen laughing.
Texarkana Police Department’s Public Information Officer Shawn Vaughn is so happy to report today that this case resulted in a prison sentence.
“LeGus Holloway Jr. pleaded guilty to Cruelty of Non-Livestock Animals, a 3rd degree felony. District Judge John Tidwell sentenced him to five years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division. Holloway has been in jail since his arrest on November 25, 2017.”
Vaughn added that this was an extremely tough case for the entire department, as his fellow officers have a heart for animals.
“We were horrified at the way that he treated that dog and are glad to see that justice was served. We are proud that we were able to help hold Holloway responsible for his actions in this case.”
