Breast cancer survivor on a mission to change lives through empowerment

Mercedes Wilson has been a friend of the Hope Rises movement nearly since the beginning of our inception, and it has been our sincere pleasure to witness the work she is doing for women and young women in our community.

For Our Daughters is a nonprofit aimed to educate young women on how to advocate for their own health and wellness. But it extends to older women and entire families.

“We believe that every woman, young and old, should know their family history and be proactive in speaking up when something isn’t quite right with her body,” says Mercedes.

This is accomplished by going into both middle and high schools all over Western New York and spending time with young women in an effort to show them how to have open dialogue with the loved ones in their lives. She also puts on the annual gala to raise funds to continue this important work.

Mercedes was motivated to start her life mission after being diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer at the young age of 28. Though shocking, she believes it was God’s way of choosing her destiny and helping others through struggle.

“We value family, knowing your family history and we want to remove all the obstacles that prevent the women we work with from advocating for their own health and wellness. Above all else, no insecurity should prevent a young woman from talking about her body.”

Their gala is less than a month away! Party in style – roaring 20s style!

There is still room to attend or sponsor. If you are unable to attend, but still wish to support, you can sponsor a breast cancer survivor to enjoy the grand evening.
